Woman in Bronze

''Woman in Bronze'' is a novel by Canadian-Lithuanian Antanas Sileika. It was first published in 2004 by Random House Canada.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.worldcat.org/title/woman-in-bronze-a-novel/oclc/53396568&referer=brief_results )
Set in the early 1920s, it follows a young Lithuanian sculptor named Tomas Stumbras who, in the war-torn early years of his country's independence, leaves his home on a Lithuanian farm and travels to Paris to launch his art career. The plot features jealous lovers, topless dancers, a transvestite, murders and suicides.
Historical figures in the book include sculptor Jacques Lipchitz, entertainer Josephine Baker, and Polish general Józef Piłsudski. According to Humber EtCetera, "()nlike other authors who may use famous names as sensational name-drops... Sileika uses them as legitimate characters that work around and with him."
